Having been born in Milwaukee, WI, raised in Cookeville, TN, and educated in Gainesville, FL, my accent is all over the place these days. I earned my Ph.D. in English from the University of Florida with my dissertation focusing on American comics and memory studies. In addition, I've taught at the university level for ten years, where I developed an array of courses covering composition, rhetoric, comics, American literature, and much more. Six years ago, I was diagnosed with skin cancer, but thanks to the diligence of my doctors, I have been cancer-free for over five years! Over the past few years, I started making my own comics and visual artwork for both personal and professional endeavors.
Illustration and comics making have become major hobbies of mine over the past few years. I publish a webcomic, "Out There," on Instagram and here as well! The entire series is available on the "Creative Work" page, starting with the newest issue.
When not comics-making, I love hiking around the Tennessee State Parks. You can find me out at Long Hunter, Radnor Lake, or Percy Warner with an almost alarming frequency.
I'm a huge fan of tabletop games, both board games and RPGs. Current character: Paces, a bard loosely based on Tom Petty.
Finally, you can find me in the kitchen learning to bake. I'm currently working on various dessert bread recipes including my mom's famous banana bread!
